RE: Class A drivers license for 12K trailer?

The information I gave came right out of the CDL manual, CDL are not different from state to state, if commercial and pivots (trailer) over 10k GVWR a CDL class A is required. If not commercial no problem however if you under state the weight and you would be in a accident you will get burnt big time!
CDL is Federal, not State, so jliveit is right on this.
However, this is not a new topic and I have read that some States have "tricky" laws and Cali. might be one of them.
I might be off topic and thinking about the 5er guys towing boats behind the 5er.
Like another member suggested, check the website.

RE: If poo tank full...and grey is empty?..will it cross over?

Interesting.
My 2004 CC does not allow the grey over to the black and vise versa.
I wonder what "newer" years and models offer this grey to black thing.
I'll freak if black goes to grey.

RE: Is this a good time to buy or wait for next spring

Shop around.
If the deal is there take it.
We were looking at a Montana about 3 months ago. The dealership was not hungry enough, so we left the deal. We will wait till the Boston RV show and try our hand again. Like you we have a trade. I am Not going to roll our 5er into the next one, so to find a deal is going to be hard, but it could happen.

RE: No more deciding, we went seasonal...for now.

Wickerbill, Well said.
We were lucky we could put our 5er onsite for 2 weeks. This let us mix with the neighbors, judge the sound level, and really just decide if this was the site for us. It is for now.
We had almost 40 sites to choose from...most being too expensive, small or in a area that was not for us let our decision seem easier. We had chosen a site that was across the road from my Brother in law. The CG thought I couldn't fit and tried to talk me onto another site...well, my slider hitch wouldn't slide (special thanks to the installer!!) which prevented my from jack knifing the rig onto the site. The site that opened up is better anyways, being a corner lot.
Everything seemed to just fall in place.

RE: camping world closed

We have one here in NH.
They are much smaller than the previous Gary's RV or even Myers.
I was never impressed with their sales staff and inventory.
The store is cool.
It's going to be a long winter for all RV dealerships.

No more deciding, we went seasonal...for now.

Hello,
Rhonda and I have talked around the campfire one too many times about the positives of going seasonal...the negatives too.
My Brother in law decided to camp at a local (6 miles down the road) CG for the month of August. We visited many times and then with no other plans brought our 5er over for a 2 weekend visit. We loved the place!
I can't blame the high cost of diesel, the #1 question "Do you take Dogs", the getting up on Sunday just knowing I have to tear down the site, the just not having the money to camp every weekend and all the other questions and concerns that buzz your head before and after a trip.
We just wanted to give seasonal camping a try and now we are.
So, site number 96 at Tuxbury Pond RV Resort will be home for the coming season. May 1st - October 15th.
We are now talking about shutting down the house and just living at Tuxbury...we'll see.
We have already met many neighbors and they are great people. What RVer's are not?
I shouldn’t wish time away so quickly, but I can’t wait until next season!

RE: Insurance

letswent,
Every State charges a different rate for insurance. New Hampshire, according to some insurance companies is one of the most expensive to do business with.
AIG can beat anyone I called...except for the 5er.
We'll stay with the lizard for another year and then shop again.
Geico is around $250.00 for a year on our 5er that is in the sig.

RE: Insurance

I just shopped 3 weeks ago.
We stayed with Geico. I hate insurance and the companies that sell it. I have not filed a claim in about 15 years, so I go with the cheapest I can find.
Geico was it.
However, on my Kawasaki ATV, Geico was $300.00 more than Progressive, so the ATV belongs to Progressive.
Good luck.

RE: camping at dog shows

Is their another person that is showing that you could call? They might know who to call. Did you try goggle searching just the fairgrounds name?
Just some idea's.
I would certainly call someone to get verbal or even better written permission.

RE: Best power chip or programmer for Dodge Hemi???

I have to agree with others on here. leave it alone and don't waste your money.
Before my Ford I had a Hemi. I had 3.73's and the only thing I could consider to get more from the truck was to change the gears. That was big $$ so I did what I was told to do...Buy a Diesel.
I'll never pull with a gasser again. Promise.
Sorry I couldn't be more of help.

RE: Ford's latest reflash does indeed improve mileage

I have an 2008 F450 with 4.3 rear end. It is a Job 1 truck built in May of 2007 with 30,000 miles. It is in for the first re flash of the PCM powertrain control module. This is a computer controlled engine as is all modern diesel engines. The EPA is mandating emission requirements that choke the life out the all new diesel engines. Ford is spending big bucks to ensure that we can get the maximum performance and economy from the new 6.4 liter diesel staying within government requirements. Ford is listening to the loyal customers by continuing to improve their products well after the sale. I will gladly drop my truck in for a 30 minute PCM update that will improve my trucks performance.
I bought another Ford because I wanted a fantastic truck with looks and guts. The F450 product is in a league by itself.
BTW I am getting 12.9 mpg hand calculated with the old math empty some city mostly highway. I can't wait for service pack 1!
Well Said!
If you are going to knock Capt. Skup's F-450 then knock it with a comparable truck/5er, not a 2001 dump truck.

RE: 2005 Ford F350 - Mileage on the 6.0 and is it reliable?

Have you driven both trucks?
Price is high compared to Trucks in NH, USA.
If you are concerned about the 6.0 and like the truck then have the vin pulled to see the history. CARFAX will not show everything.
I felt there was more to a truck then just the engine and the fact that I know people that have owned all 3 and have had Problems with all 3 is just an indication that Yes, GM, Ford and Dodge all make trucks that break.
I would test drive the trucks and buy the one YOU like. Keep it simple and don't listen to the story tellers and bashers.

Now I know how that caveman felt when he rolled out the first wheel, just to find his neighbors had one too.
Still a great idea, no matter how old the recipe is.

1st time towing with a Diesel...Not the Last!

Hi,
Well, we just got back from Maine and it was the 1st trip towing with our 06' F-350 6.0 PSD. I can count on 1 hand how many times I went over 2k rpm. Awesome power! Awesome ride! Awesome Truck!
As long as we are going to haul a 5er, we will own a Diesel.
Nobody will ever sell me on towing with a gasser ever again.
We are so happy we made the switch.
See you on the road,

Omlette in a bag

Hi,
My wife was shown this "trick" to a perfect omlette and she made it for me today.
Ours was a 3 egg, ham, broccoli, and cheese with a dash of sea salt.
Take a freezer bag (it must be a freezer bag, quart size), whisk 3 eggs and pour into bag, add all your favorite ingredients into the bag. Close the bag pressing the air out then put the bag in a pan of boiling water (I used my dutch oven on a gas grill)for 17 minutes, you can do a two egg omlette reduce cooking time to 13 minutes. Remove from the bag (slides out whole)and serve the best omlette I have had in a very long time.
This idea is going to save us room in the fridge as we are going to prep everything in bags prior to hitting the road.
The only negative is cooking time, but we are in no rush when we are RVing. We have work for that.
Let us know what you think.
Happy Camp Cooking,

RE: The best way to save money for gas!

We bought used. I had Dealerships trying everyday to get me to buy a new truck. I let someone else buy my $50,250.00 F-350. 2 years and 28,850 miles later I bought the truck for almost HALF price! Still have bumper to bumper warranty until the end of December and I have a 100,000 mile engine warranty.
Computer tells me 18.7mpg around town (I am hand calculating this week).
We made a good choice buying used in this upside down economy. Don't forget Insurance and registration went down in $$ too.
With these savings, Her and I can do something we love together more than anything else. Camping!
See ya on the road.
